Novel Summary
On a transatlantic flight from the rebuilt metropolis of New Arcadia to the old-world haven of Lindisfarne, a disgraced city planner releases an engineered virus at cruising altitude. What follows is an improvised tribunal conducted by the cabin crew, who must decide who among the passengers will be isolated, medicated, or left to die. As the plane transforms into a floating court, the crew’s deliberations mirror the cold calculus of a disability benefits hearing, forcing them to confront the moral debris left behind by relentless urban progress. Shuichi Yoshida-esque in its excavation of loneliness, fragile communal bonds, and the quiet violence of a society that demolishes not just homes but the ethical anchors within them, the story traces how a handful of survivors find an unspeakable chance to rewrite their entire existence in the aftermath of atrocity.
