Novel Summary
In the shadow of a federal court ruling on a disability claim, historian Elias Vinter uncovers a suppressed 1983 directive buried in the National Archive of the Commonwealth of Caledonia. The memo reveals that the founding election of the ruling Unity Party was engineered through mass voter disqualification. Before he can publish, Vinter is found dead in his study—officially a heart attack. His daughter, attorney Lena Vinter, begins to realize that every neighbor who looked away, every clerk who sealed the file, and every official who quietly obeyed orders left a fingerprint on the weapon. Set in a fog-laden North Atlantic capital, this story follows a woman who must piece together a truth that everyone around her already knows but refuses to speak.
