Pity's Iron Teeth

After his scholar son is beheaded for daring to offer reform advice to the Qianlong Emperor, an old blacksmith is left to rot in a village that pitied but never defended him. When three thieves break into his forge-house, he turns his trade into a liturgy of blood, building a maze of traps from scrap iron and coal. In the carnage that follows, the old man forces the last intruder—a neighbor who once wept for his son—to swallow the bitter truth: a sigh is not a shield, and compassion without action is the quietest form of murder.
