The Weight of Shadows

In the perpetual drizzle of Ashwick, former seminarian turned private investigator Roman Dragovic is hired by civil rights attorney Elena Vasquez to surveil Silas Wentworth, a county clerk who refuses to amend a transgender man’s birth certificate on grounds of faith. As Dragovic documents Wentworth’s every sanctimonious move, he becomes haunted by a second presence—a shadow that mimics his steps, leaves cryptic notes, and seems to know his own buried sins better than he does. When Wentworth is discovered dead in his locked office under impossible circumstances, the perfect crime appears to have no culprit. Dragovic must confront the shadow in a decrepit courthouse, where he learns that the line between accident and murder is drawn not by malice, but by the dullness of chance and the moral lethargy of everyone involved.
