Orissa Forest Illegal Logging and Mining Case

In 2025, a major scandal emerged in Odisha, India, involving large-scale illegal logging and unauthorized mining within protected forest areas. Investigations led by the Odisha Vigilance Department and subsequently monitored by the Central Bureau of Investigation revealed a nexus between Odisha Mining Corporation officials and private contractors. These actors systematically circumvented the Forest Conservation Act by forging documents and bribing local authorities to clear vast tracts of reserved forests for open-cast mining without valid environmental clearances.
